Neilay Shah’s history senior thesis, “The Luce-Celler Act of 1946: White Nationalism, Indian Nationalism, and the Cosmopolitan Elite,” focused on different implications of the law, which provided a quota of 100 Filipinos and 100 Indians to immigrate into the United States each year.

Alumni Theater Troupe Recognized by Philly Weekly

The Groundswell Players, the DIY, experimental theater group of Ali King ’09, Jack Meaney ’09, Jesse Paulsen ’09 and Scott Sheppard ’06, was recognized in the current issue of Philadelphia Weekly as one of things that “make Philly what it is.” Their third and latest show, The Speed of Surprise, will premiere at the Philadelphia Fringe Festival in September.

Kindergarten College Tour

A couple of weeks ago, six kindergarten classes from Mastery Charter School’s Smedley Elementary Campus in Northeastern Philadelphia came to Haverford’s campus on a trip supported by the College’s service organization 8th Dimension. The purpose of this field trip was to give these kindergarteners a glimpse at college life and reinforce college as a goal they should be working towards.

Campus in Summer

With most of the students gone (save those on campus for summer work and research assignments), the campus has been pretty quiet these last few weeks. But though there may be fewer people around to see it, it is no less lovely. Sweet-smelling, verdant and leafy, the campus is an exceptionally nice place to be on a warm summer day.

Alumni Weekend 2011

May 27 through 29, generations of Haverford students descended on campus once again for Alumni Weekend 2011. All classes ending in 1s and 6s celebrated a reunion, and Fords from all years were welcomed back to campus. Here is a gallery of pictures from this exciting weekend.

An Alumna’s Tasty Shakespeare Project

The Missoula Oblongata, an experimental theater company co-founded by Sarah Lowry ’05, is presenting its fourth collaborative Shakespeare project, a five-company re-imagining of Antony and Cleopatra (complete with desserts), this week in a secret location.
