COOL CLASSES: “Perspectives in Biology: Poisons, Plagues, Pollution, and Progress”
A biology course for non-majors that focuses on the various nodes of intersection between poisons—found in nature and man-made—and the history of human misery, including contemporary issues, such as the Ebola outbreak in western Africa.
"Through the Plain Camera" Opening
Friday evening the Cantor Fitzgerald Gallery unveiled its latest show, Through the Plain Camera: Small and Shapely Pleasures in Contemporary Photography, which was curated by Sarah Kaufman ’03 and Rebecca Robertson BMC ’00, two former students of Professor of Fine Arts and Curator of Photography William Williams.

A recent article in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, written by a former student of Ira deA. Reid’s (and a classmate of Martin Luther King’s), includes an anecdote about how Haverford’s first tenured African American professor brought the future civil rights leader to campus in 1948.

When Columbia University PhD candidate (and project coordinator of the Malcolm X Project) Zahir Ali came to campus to talk about the intersection of hip-hop and Islam, he didn’t just come to lecture. Last Thursday Chase Auditorium was full of the sights and sounds of hip-hop itself, making the topic come alive.
