On Saturday, May 19, we welcomed the 317 newest members of the Haverford College alumni body at the graduation of the Class of 2018. Despite the showers, it couldn’t rain on our parade, and graduates and their proud families were all smiles inside the Alumni Field House.
During the College’s 180th Commencement ceremony, the standing-room-only crowd—including the graduates and their loved ones, as well as the staff, students, and faculty who helped shape their Haverford experiences—heard from student-chosen speakers Alliyah Allen ’18 (a religion major with an Africana concentration who spoke on the importance of friendship) and Coop short-order cook Gary King, who said that he came to Haverford “for the promise of a workplace with genuine personal interaction, and an opportunity to be a part of a community, and every day has lived up to that promise.” Bryn Mawr College President Kimberly Wright Cassidy, Haverford President Kim Benston, and three honorary degree recipients—Puentes de Salud Co-Founder Steven Larson ’83, former Executive Director of Philadelphia Futures Joan Mazzotti, and Harvard Professor and Data Privacy Lab Founder Latanya Sweeney—also spoke.
Wonder just who is in the Haverford College Class of 2018? A full list of the graduates and their areas of study, senior theses, and hometowns gives a small snapshot of these remarkable people.
