A Musical Tribute to Thanksgiving

Ruth Marshall Magill Professor of Music Curt Cacioppo and his friend, pianist Emanuele Arciuli, presented an on-campus colloquium celebrating Native American art and music in honor of Thanksgiving.

On Monday, November 21, composer and Ruth Marshall Magill Professor of Music Curt Cacioppo and his friend, pianist Emanuele Arciuli, presented a colloquium celebrating Native American art and music.  The colloquium, which spanned both past and present musical traditions, was a Thanksgiving tribute to the first peoples of North America. Art from the Pueblo and Anasazi cultures were presented alongside traditional Native American songs.

Professor Cacioppo opened the presentation with a Native American rain dance song, before discussing with his colleague the different unique aspects of Native American music. The event, which was held in MacCrate Recital Hall, was a follow-up to Arciuli’s performance in Marshall on Sunday, November 20.
