What: Bounce is Haverford’s oldest hip-hop dance group which, after a yearlong hiatus, was revived in the fall of 2014 by Jin Yoon ’16 and Emily Diaz ’16. Bounce aims to spread hip-hop dance throughout the Bi-Co by encouraging members to learn from one another. In 2015, the club decided to transition to a performance-based group while still maintaining an inclusive approach to learning and growing through dance.
Who: Leadership is mainly run by a board that regularly meets to monitor the club’s organization and growth. Lauren Correia ’17 and Elisa Sheen ’19 are the current co-heads. Micaela Gold ’19 is the public relations manager, Andrew Nguyen ’19 is the treasurer, and Gilbert Orta Portillo ’17 is the secretary.
When: Bounce holds rehearsals and workshops, which are led by both club members and dance professionals, in the GIAC’s Swan Multipurpose Room. The workshops are always open to the community. The club also performs in the annual Fall Student Dance Concert and hosts its own showcase in the spring. This semester, the club’s showcase will be held in Marshall Auditorium on April 15, in collaboration with other Bi-Co dancers and groups.
Did you know: Bounce alum Mark Wong ’05 is a professional dancer based in Philly. The club has invited him to host many breakdancing workshops for the past three years.
Get involved: Bounce holds auditions every fall semester and encourages anyone interested in learning dance to join. To join the mailing list and get updates on workshops and performances, email bounce.haverford@gmail.com.
