May 27 through 29, generations of Haverford alumni descended on campus once again for Alumni Weekend 2011. All classes ending in 1s and 6s celebrated a reunion, and of course, Fords from all years were welcomed back to campus to spend time with old friends and relive their college days by staying in dorm rooms, attending lectures by former professors or just strolling by the Duck Pond. The three-day reunion was jam-packed with events from meals and parties to tours and talks. There was all manner of physical activity to participate in (yoga, kickball, Frisbee), and children of alums joined in the fun at the Family Fun Fair. The Class of ’06 and the Humanities Center even hosted Non Doctior, a special exhibit at the Cantor Fitzgerald Gallery, curated by student art collective Drop Shot, that acted as a pop art “ethnographic museum of Haverfordinalia” (right down to its titular reference to the school’s Latin motto: “Non doctior, sed meliore doctrina imbutus”).
Five Fords were honored at the 2011 Alumni Awards Ceremony. David L. Thomas ’71 was given The Kannerstein Award For Sustained Service to the College; journalist Michael Paulson ’86 was given the Haverford College Alumni Distinguished Achievement Award For Outstanding Achievement in a Chosen Field or Endeavor; Dr. William A. Craig ’61 and Darwin J. Prockop ’51 were both given the Haverford Award for Service to Society; and Bibhav Acharya ’06 was given the Haverford College Young Alumni Award for Accomplishments in Leadership.
Below is a brief glimpse of some of the weekend’s festivities. (More photos will appear in the upcoming spring/summer issue of Haverford magazine.) But if you took pictures of your own during Alumni Weekend 2011, please share them with us (and your classmates) on the College’s Flickr page.
