This summer, Devin Lefkowitz ’25, an economics major, has stepped into his role as an investment banking analyst at RBC Capital Markets in New York.
“Haverford’s liberal arts education certainly helped me think more critically and approach challenges with an entrepreneurial mindset—two things that I know will be useful throughout my career,” he says. “Additionally, having taken courses across various departments, I believe that the skills I’ve developed through reading and writing in all different contexts will prove incredibly helpful as well.”
Several courses shaped his academic and professional interests. Professor of Economics Anne Preston’s junior research seminar, “Sports as an Economics Laboratory,” inspired Lefkowitz’s thesis, “The Effects of Hometown Socioeconomic Status on Positional Selection and Performance in the NFL,” he says.
“Moreover, Professor Shannon Mudd’s ‘Impact Investing’ course made me excited about a career in finance. In the class, everyone was split into due diligence teams, each assigned to an [environmental, social, and governance-focused] startup,” Lefkowitz says. “At the end of the semester, each team presented their company to Haverford’s Investment Advisory Council for a potential investment. It was a valuable learning experience to act as an investor and conduct real-world company analyses.” He continued his involvement in impact investing the following year by serving on the Student Impact Investing Board.
Lefkowitz also found mentorship on the men’s lacrosse team, particularly from Jared Heller ’23. “He was always eager to help others and played a pivotal role in helping me navigate the finance recruiting process,” Lefkowitz says. “In leading Haverford’s Finance Initiative and Student Investment Portfolio this past year, I’ve worked to pass along what he taught me.”
His experiences at Haverford reinforced the value of teamwork and leadership. “Being part of the Men’s Lacrosse team demonstrated the importance of accountability, a common mission, and a tight-knit culture on a daily basis,” he says. “In my career, I look forward to working on teams that strongly value these principles.”
Looking ahead, Lefkowitz is “excited to immerse myself in the investment banking world and learn as much as I can,” and, he adds, “I can’t wait to see all the incredible things my classmates will accomplish.”
