Where They’re Headed: Angie Geralis ’24

She credits Haverford academics and leadership with shaping her fintech and software engineering career goals.

After a summer internship at JPMorganChase, Angie Geralis ’24 joined University of Pennsylvania as a graduate student in its Accelerated Masters Program.

“I am interested in fintech and working on artificial intelligence and machine learning projects,” Geralis says. “Haverford allowed me to explore these passions through specific courses and additional work through my thesis and as a teaching assistant.”

At Haverford, Geralis majored in computer science with a minor in economics. She notes that classes that played a “huge role” in shaping her career path were “Data Science,” “Machine Learning,” and “Software Engineering” at Bryn Mawr College. These courses provided a solid foundation and deepened her interest in leveraging technology to transform the financial sector.

Geralis’ role as captain of the women’s soccer team had a profound impact on her, she says. “Being a captain definitely shaped my career,” she explains. “Balancing this role while taking graduate-level classes was demanding, but it taught me valuable lessons in resilience, time management, and leadership. I know I am capable of staying focused under pressure, managing a multitude of responsibilities, and understanding the importance of setting attainable goals for personal growth.”

Networking and mentorship also played a significant role for Geralis. “Some of the most influential figures were my teammates on the soccer team at Haverford,” she says. “After talking to [my teammate] Celia Page ’23 about her job at JPMorgan, I was inspired to attend one of their super days, which led to an amazing internship opportunity.”

Geralis also acknowledges the crucial support she received from Haverford’s computer science professors, saying, “Their dedication and the knowledge they imparted provided me with the skills needed to excel both in my internship and in graduate school.”

Looking forward, Geralis plans to graduate with a master’s of science in engineering (MSE) in computer and information science and pursue a full-time career as a software engineer.

Geralis adds, “I wish for my friends and fellow graduates to achieve success and fulfillment both in their personal and professional lives. I hope that we all continue to value the connections we have made during our time at Haverford.”
