For creative writers across the Bi-College community, The Haverford Review has long offered a platform for students to publish work for a welcoming and eager audience of readers.
But now the College’s literary magazine has a new name, Milkweed, which the co-editors credit as an important shift to reflect the mission of the publication.
“The Haverford Review didn’t do our magazine justice—the name suggests more emphasis on critique and academia, whereas really we want the literary magazine to be an inclusive space that’s focused on creativity and growth for everyone involved,” said Eleanor Morgan ’20. “We debated lots of different titles, but we thought that Milkweed just has a ring and unique imagery to it that the others didn’t.”
Morgan, who serves as co-editor alongside Teruha Stergios ’19, is excited for the opportunity for a variety of campus voices to be featured in Milkweed, and both are currently seeking submissions for this semester’s publication. (Send yours to emorgan2@haverford.edu and tstergios@haverford.edu.)
In addition to creative writing, Milkweed also showcases visual art, and Morgan and Stergios are looking forward to collaborating with artists and writers on campus through workshops and other events to increase the sense of an artistic community on campus.
“We’re the same literary magazine at our core,” said Morgan, “but we hope that our new name and plans for the year will showcase our mission more and make Haverford more interested and involved with our presence on campus.”
Keep your eyes peeled for the inaugural issue of the magazine under its new name after fall break— copies will be available in the Dining Center, Founders Great Hall, and VCAM.
