This fall, Emily Scott ’14 will be pursuing her passion for academics and athletics as a math teacher and assistant cross country and track coach at Peddie School, an elite, private institution in Hightstown, N.J.
Scott, a math major with a minor in Educational Studies, has been developing her interests in teaching and running since middle school. It wasn’t until she took her first education course at Haverford, though, that she knew she wanted to pursue a career as a teacher. She went on to earn her secondary teacher certification through the Bryn Mawr-Haverford Education Program and student taught full-time at Radnor Middle School during the spring semester of her senior year. Scott ran cross country and track during all four years at Haverford, and she served as the captain of both teams her senior year.
When searching for jobs for after graduation, Scott became especially interested in Peddie School because she recognized a strong sense of community among administrators, educators, coaches, and students. Like Haverford, Peddie School, which has both boarding and day students, fosters an intimate classroom environment, with an average of 12 students per class. “I am eager to further develop my teaching skills and techniques while working in collaboration with my new colleagues in the Peddie School math department,” says Scott.
