After graduating with an economics major and Chinese minor, Jixi Teng ’13 decided to return home to Seattle to work for Amazon as a marketplace business analyst. This position allows him to work directly with small businesses that sell on Amazon, and his analysis of market data will assist entrepreneurs with online business endeavors.
“Growing up in Seattle, I have been able to witness the ascent of [Amazon] and their foresight has just been remarkable,” says Teng.
Teng started Haverford with his sights set on a political science degree and an eventual legal career. However, he refocused on the business world after receiving a John C. Whitehead ’43 Internship to work with Brad Mayer ’92, marketing director of Winebow, during the summer of his sophomore year. Teng again took advantage of alumni connections in his junior year, when Ty Ahmad-Taylor ’90 helped him land a summer position as a financial analyst at Rhapsody International in Seattle.
“I have been able to struggle, persevere, and ultimately deliver great results with highly intelligent folks,” says Teng of his time at Haverford. “And I think that will probably simulate what work will be like.”
