Where They’re Headed: Elizabeth Douglas ’13

In a new installment of a continuing Haverblog series about the post-graduation plans of the Class of 2013, Elizabeth Douglas talks about the tutoring work she will do for Match Corps, which runs Boston-area charter schools that prepare low-income students to attend four-year colleges.

Starting in August, history major Elizabeth Douglas ’13 will work for Match Corps, which runs Boston-area charter schools that prepare low-income students to attend four-year colleges.

“My primary role will be to work as a tutor with at least four middle school students,” says Douglas. “I will also be assigned a secondary role that could be working as a TA, administrative assistant, or in development.” For Douglas, working as a tutor with Match Corps promises to be an easy transition, since she worked one-on-one with students as a tutor during both high school and college.

Interested in spending a couple of years working in a school before pursuing her graduate education, Douglas was first recommended Match Corps by other Haverford students. “I decided to apply for the fellowship because it seemed like it offered exactly what I wanted: an opportunity to make a difference in a school dedicated to helping children and closing the achievement gap.”
