The roulette wheels were spinning in Founders on Friday night as Haverford hosted its first ever Casino Night. The event, a joint effort between Fords Against Boredom (FAB) and the Haverford College chapter of the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, allowed students to try their hands at many different casino games including blackjack, poker, craps, roulette and even, less traditionally, a “Wheel of Fortune.” For the festivities, Founders was stocked with more food than anyone knew what to do with and an impressive array of raffle prizes, including a Barnes and Noble Nook, a six-month subscription to Netflix and front row tickets to a Phillies game.
After receiving an initial $50 dollars worth of free chips from FAB, Fords could buy more at a ratio of 1 “real” dollar to $20 in casino chips, knowing that all the proceeds would be going to Relay for Life. At the end of the night, everyone cashed in their winnings for raffle tickets. Professional dealers and tables made the night all the more authentic, while still accommodating all skill levels, from beginners to pros. Casino Night was a rousing success, and those who attended agreed that it should turn into an annual event.
