After weeks of anticipation, you can finally experience for yourself — up-close and on a superhuman scale – the art show featuring work by Chris Jordan, who also attended the opening reception last Friday at the Cantor Fitzgerald Gallery in the Whitehead Campus Center. If you’ve had a chance to see the book Running the Numbers: An American Self Portrait or perused Chris Jordan’s website, you may think you’ve got a handle on his work. But believe me, seeing it in person is a totally different story. There is no hiding from the statistics portrayed by his large scale photographs when you’re standing before them, dwarfed by, for example, 2.3 million folded prison uniforms, equal to the number of Americans incarcerated in 2005 (Prison Uniforms, 2007, 10×23 feet in six vertical panels).
